Sustainable Event Management in IT

Sustainable Event Management (SEM) refers to the set of practices and activities that values the economic, environmental and social impact of any event. Incorporation of sustainable development into all stages of an event from planning to implementation is the key principle behind the same.

Salesforce practices sustainability at a substantial level which involves the collaboration of various entities supporting the cause. For instance, the principle of sustainability is valued deeply and practiced at all the Salesforce events including the Dreamforce!

Our Take on SEM:

Algocirrus being a Salesforce Partner comprehends the need to foster sustainability & ethics in the IT industry. Sustainability not just refers to following environment friendly practices but is more about ensuring that the network that one caters to is producing/consuming any event with environmental concerns as well as social responsibility at the strategy forefront. We ensure that all the events and strategies undertaken by us reflect as a part of Green IT which is a representation of innovative solutions to mitigate & reverse environmental degradation.

Green IT is a depiction of finding ways to design, manufacture, use and dispose of IT equipment in eco-friendly ways. For a product based organization, it could be more about the raw materials being used, development and production methods being followed, supply chain management and many more. However, when it comes to a service based organization, this can be understood as the use of ethical practices, implementation strategies that support sustainability via the clients & stakeholders, using software platforms/tools and facilities responsibly, etc.

Sustainability Priorities:

In order to stimulate sustainability, Salesforce aims to achieve Net Zero residual emissions which is facilitated with the Net Zero Cloud, 1t.org, ecopreneur revolution investments, etc. Furthermore, to ensure the fulfillment of short and long term goals towards this vision, below six sustainability priorities must be focussed:

Making Events Sustainable:

Algocirrus is a renowned Salesforce Partner which is also an active member of the Salesforce Communities. Being a community member, we are known to contribute with our participation in multiple events globally spread throughout the year. Hence, with our knowledge and expertise in this field, it is justified for us to share some effective ways to make any event sustainable.

How Does Salesforce Support the Cause with Sustainable Events?

Dreamforce, the largest Salesforce event all over the world, is known to be an icon of sustainability & the principles of SEM are highly valued here. In addition to the introduction of the Net Zero Cloud, Salesforce conducts a lineup of engaging sessions emphasizing on the need of the hour - Environmental, Social and Governance Goals.

Not just this, but Salesforce also ensures to reduce the footprint onsite by some of the below listed steps:

Offsetting the Travel

With this, all the attendees at Dreamforce are offered a chance to offset their travel-related emissions so that they can focus more on the takeaways from the event!

Promoting No Waste

Salesforce ensures that all their meal packaging is 100% compostable. This helps manage the waste responsibly as a community.

Recycling the Badge

Salesforce events offer attractive badges & lanyards to all the attendees, speakers, sponsors, partners, and volunteers. Apart from holding memorable value, Salesforce ensures that they contribute to nature by designating badge/lanyard recycling bins at event venues to ensure they get recycled for an environmentally friendly purpose.

Care for Air

Salesforce encourages all its participants to walk and use public transport to commute to and from the venue. Additionally, the use of EVs, ridesharing, and bikes helps make the air fresher and allows participants to enjoy the breeze of the weather.

Sustainable Products at Salesforce

Swags and goodies are interesting takeaways from any Salesforce event. To ensure alignment with economic and environmentally friendly values, many new introductions are being offered. For instance, recyclable stickers, using algae ink, eliminating printed materials to the maximum possible extent, modifying the food menu, nurturing nature, and promoting donations to reduce landfills.

What is ESG?

ESG, also known as Environmental, Social and Governance Goals, is a framework to help businesses evaluate their performance & sustainability on a variety of factors. It is a practice by which any organization can reduce its pessimistic impact & increase its optimistic impact on not just the environment but also governance and society & by these means, a company’s risks and opportunities lying in these areas can be well tracked, projected and acted upon with the right strategy!

But why is ESG important? Let’s take a look.
ESG has three main pillars that are closely bonded together and are correlated to influence each other deeply.

  1. Environmental Pillar is all about how an organization and its practices impact the planet as eventually the biggest stakeholder for any company must be the planet as per Salesforce.
  2. Social Pillar refers to the impact that an organization has on the community they cater to and the people associated such as their team members or staff, clients, stakeholders, etc.
  3. Governance Pillar focuses on the methods by which an organization is governed, and is mainly concentrated around accountability, transparency, regulatory compliance and ethical conduct. IT ethics or Netiquette is also a known major component in the same!

ESG impacts the IT industry in many ways but mainly, is wrapped around Diversity, Inclusion and Human Rights. All these factors amalgamated with technology drives to influence the concerns like AI bias, Cybersecurity, and many more!
